Health & Life Skills

These programs help youth achieve and maintain healthy and active lifestyles.

SMART Moves

A prevention/ education program, Skills Mastery and Resistance Training (SMART) Moves addresses the problems of drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity. This program teaches youth how to say "no" by involving members in a discussion and role-laying, practicing resistance and refusal skills developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills and analyzing media and peer influence.

SMART Girls

A health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girl. SMART Girls is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable early adolescent girls to develop to their full potential.

Passport to Manhood

This program promotes and teaches responsibility while reinforcing positive behavior in male Club members. Club members participate in small-group sessions, each of which concentrates on a specific aspect of manhood through highly interactive activities.

Act SMART

Developed as a joint project between Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the American Red Cross, Act SMART is an HIV/AIDS prevention program designed for all Club members.

MethSMART

MethSMART utilizes a comprehensive, multi-pronged approach, incorporating current research about methamphetamine use, providing viable solutions to help young people handle challenging circumstances and avoid unhealthy behaviors.

KIDS IN CONTROL

A safety awareness program designed to help Club members develop the personal safety habits and practical skills needed to be safe at the Club at home and in the neighborhood. The program offers interactive approaches to building Club members’ crime prevention and personal safety skills through role-playing, games and other participatory activities.

Street SMART

This program consists of three components designed to help Club members effectively resist gangs and violence, resolve conflicts and be positive peer helpers in their communities. It also allows them the opportunity to hold annual events that celebrate anti-gang and anti-violence themes.

Cavity-Free Zone

Underwritten by Crest, this program aims to improve the oral health of Club members. Through oral health educational program materials, a web site and collaborative efforts with local dental schools, dental societies and other health care agencies, Cavity-Free Zone will be a catalyst for change in providing dental services to youth.

Character & Leadership

These programs focus on helping youth become responsible caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process. Members also develop leadership skills and are provided the opportunity to plan and contribute to their Club and community.

Keystone and Torch Clubs

These leadership development programs target young adults, ages 11 to 18. Members elect officers and plan and implement their own activities and community service projects.

Youth of the Month and Youth of the Year

This program recognizes outstanding contributions made by a Club member to their family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club. It also focuses on academic excellence, personal challenges and obstacles the Club member has overcome. Ever Clubhouse selects a senior Youth of the Year who competes at an Alaska regional level. The winners of these competitions compete at the Statewide Youth of the Year for an opportunity to compete in the regional and nationwide Youth of the Year competitions.

Education & Career

These programs help youth create aspirations for the future, providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement.

Money Matters: Make It Count

This financial literacy program was designed specifically to help teens expand their knowledge of money management and learn the skills that lead to financial independence and well-being.

Project Learn

This program reinforces and enhances the skills and knowledge young people learn at school through "high-yield" learning activities at the Club and in the home. Project Learn emphasizes collaborations between Club staff, parents, and school personnel. Formally evaluated by Columbia University, Project Learn has been proven to boost the academic performance of Club members.

POWER Hour

A comprehensive homework help and tutoring program, POWER Hour is designed to raise the academic proficiency of Club members.

Goals For Graduation

This program introduces Club members to the concept of academic goal setting. In one-on-one sessions with Club professionals, members set achievable "Know-I-Can" goals, more challenging "Think-I-Can" goals and yearly "Believe-I-Can" goals. The program provides recognition of members’ achievements at every step of the journey.

Ultimate Journey

This internationally recognized, award-winning program leads Club members on a fun-filled journey into the amazing world of plants and animals. Ultimate Journey motivates young people to develop an understanding of and sensitivity to the environment, helping them build the knowledge and motivation to protect our natural resources.

Goals For Growth

This program teaches Club members skills for setting and achieving their own personal, education and career goals.

CareerLaunch

A career exploration and mentoring program for teens, this program includes the CareerLaunch web site that allows teens to take an interest survey, explore careers, identify training or college requirements, seek out financial aid and play skills-building games.

Job READY!

A comprehensive program that teaches teens effective job-hunting techniques and helps them develop the skills necessary to be successful once on the job.

The Arts

These programs help young people enhance self-expression and creativity, develop multicultural appreciation, provide exposure to and develop skills in crafts and visual, performing and literary arts.

Technology Learning Centers

Our technology centers provide a fun learning environment. Club members are exposed to technologies that help them develop essential career skills in addition to expressing themselves creatively by using technology as a tool.

Digital Arts

Members use digital cameras, video cameras and various pieces of software to create their own masterpieces. Club members are encouraged to participate in the Digital Arts Festival.

GPS

Members are equipped with Global Positioning Systems that assist them in solving riddles and navigating in adventures that are fun and educational!

Photo Club

Photo Club teaches Club members how to use digital cameras and camcorders. Club members are encouraged to develop their skills through experimentation and creativity by manipulating their photos into works of art.

Music Mixers

Our music-mixing program is done with ACID 4.0 software. Clubhouse members are able to make their own music, ranging from 10-second blips to 3-minute masterpieces. A Club favorite, Music Mixers allows kids to work together making digital songs and compile them into soundtracks and personal compact discs.

Journalism Club

Club members use all their newly developed tech skills to report on current Club events, special activities and articles of interest.

These Club programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills.
