Overview of Club

The McLaughlin Youth Center Clubhouse was established in response
to a growing need for youth development programming with high risk youth.

This Club is not accessible by the general public as it only accessible to youth residing at McLaughlin Youth Center.

Through Club programming, members learn valuable life skills of personal
responsiblity such as cooking, balancing a checkbook, applying for a job, vehicle maintenance and much more. We strive to teach them the necessary skills to remain in the community following release.

Volunteer Opportunities

The McLaughlin (MYC) Boys & Girls Club has a specially crafted Job Readiness program, designed to give our youth the independent skills and tools to find & keep work after release.  Due to the personalized nature of the program, this Job Readiness program requires many individuals to carry out.  The MYC Club seeks dedicated individuals with an earnest desire to benefit their community to assist with running this program.  For this program, an average 3 hours per week is requested from the volunteer.

The MYC Club is invested in seeing our youth succeed.  As such, we emphasize the importance of academic achievement.  Through our Goals for Graduation program, a self-paced tutoring programming where youth learn to work towards their long term education and career goals.  Volunteers would meet individually with youth an provide basic educational support, while offering informal guidance on goal setting.  For this program, only 1-2 hours each week is requested from volunteers.

There is an application process and all volunteers are screened for inappropriate offenses.  Appropriate training will be provided.  Becoming a volunteer at the MYC Club is an excellent way of gaining experience with high-risk youth, supporting a crime-free community and giving back to those in need.  An application for both programs can be found at Your Investment under the Volunteer section. Please feel free to contact me at 261-4548.
